Mechanical Department Manager

Job Description:

APC is seeking a Mechanical Department Manager for a position available in Richmond, VA.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Manage Mechanical department personnel for the successful and timely completion of projects.
  • Maintain a manpower schedule for the department and updates for the weekly staff meeting. 
  • Provides recommendations concerning additional staff or layoff requirements.
  • Coordinates with project engineers to assure staffing and technical aspects of each project are being met by his/her assigned Mechanical department personnel.
  • May be assigned to a project team as a lead Mechanical engineer and coordinate the Mechanical design aspects of project.  This includes the generation of calculations and design drawings as well as field work.
  • Serve as a project engineer on multi-discipline projects and coordinate the efforts of project team.  Typical project tracking techniques such as scheduling, communication records and budgets will be the responsibility of the project engineer.
  • Writes performance appraisals for personnel in department and performs appraisals accurately, completely and  promptly.
  • Updates Mechanical design codes to assure latest editions are being utilized by department.
  • Participates in preparation of proposals and approves all manhour estimates and cost budgets for the Mechanical portion of projects.
  • Responsible for the overall technical accuracy of all design developed within the department.  This includes the following:
    • Assigning personnel to check drawings and calculations
    • Identification and resolution of non-conformances
    • Assisting junior level staff with technical direction
    • Constructability and accuracy of drawing
    • Conformance to code
  • As a licensed engineer, will be responsible for stamping all work performed within the department and obtaining licenses in states outside present licensing via reciprocity.
  • Responsible for identification of training for staff members and overseeing timely execution.
  • Participate in overall sales effort of the client.  This many include:
    • Participate in sales presentations
    • Attend monthly sales meetings
    • Meetings with potential new client
    • Identification of new clientele
  • Responsible for preparing Mechanical man hour and cost budgets for proposals.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining the Mechanical portion of multi-discipline project schedules and projections.
  • Responsible for establishing guidelines for computer standards and software development.
  • Responsible for maintaining a harmonious working environment in the Mechanical department.

Job Requirements:

  • B.S. degree
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience related to Mechanical engineering projects in the industrial field. 
  • Must be a licensed PE, preferably in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of power systems including: piping, vessels, valves, etc
  • Must have management experience
  • Needs to come from a consulting background
  • Auto CAD experience is a plus
